Thursday evenings: Into the Depths of the Bible
The Bible takes 44 hours of continuos reading. That’s less than Harry Potter (60 hours) and much less than Game of Thrones (98 hours)!
But there are so many obstacles when we want to read it continuously. Usually, we start with Genesis, and it's beautiful. We continue with Exodus, and it's exciting. Then we stumble upon the book of Leviticus, and we give up. We give up because we don't fully understand the meaning of the Bible, we don't grasp its overall dynamic: ‘And I, stupid and without understanding, was like a hippopotamus before you’ (cf. Psalm 72).What can we do? The idea behind this course, ‘Opening the Scriptures’, is to be practically connected to our Christian life.
In just seven evenings, preceded by an introductory evening, we will provide some keys to reading the Scriptures in order to better discern God's plan as a whole, throughout the 73 books He has given us, in order to understand how the whole Bible speaks of Jesus, how the New Testament illuminates the Old, how the whole Bible speaks to each of us, speaks of each of us, even today.
This divine library has been given to us; it is God's presence and nourishment, it is for us, it is ‘for me’, for my life as a Christian, and to better bear witness to it. This journey therefore aims to inspire us to read it as we read and reread a (long) love letter: God's love for his Son, for every human being, from the first verse to the last, from Alpha to Omega: Maranatha.
This year, we will meet on:
16 October
13 November
11 December
15 January
19 February
12 March
16 April
21 May
18 June
Feel free to join even if you haven’t attended the previous nights. We begin with pizza and end with a moment of conversation and adoration. Simple, yet on the path towards God.
