Future of Campus Aquino

Until recently, Campus Aquino was spread over sixteen rented apartments at the Thomas a Kempis park opposite the H. Gerardus Majella Church. These apartments have now been demolished because the area is being redeveloped into new buildings, which will not be available for Campus Aquino.

New Diaconal Project

In addition, Campus Aquino has entered into a partnership with WoonIn. Currently, we are renting 10 apartments for Campus Aquino through WoonIn in the neighborhood around the church. The students and young professionals living there organize activities for the neighborhood and help keep the area clean and safe.

WoonIn is interested in expanding the project in the Oog in Al neighborhood. In this neighborhood, we want to start a new diaconal project following the successful approach we have gained experience with over the past few years. In order to properly organize the community spread across different apartments and neighborhoods, both the administrative and pastoral aspects, it is necessary to hire a staff member (0,2 FTE), and the student pastor (0,4 FTE) also needs an income to continue this work. Since the establishment of the student parish, the pastor has not received a salary while his duties have become increasingly extensive. This is an unsustainable situation.

Do you want to be part of this mission?

The student parish is looking for financial support to be able to provide the missionary and diaconal approach to student pastoral care in Utrecht. There are not many projects in the Netherlands where young people have the opportunity to grow in faith and as individuals in this new form, the combination of a student parish and a community with a mission in the neighborhood. For years, we have seen that the young people of the student parish and the Campus Aquino community make a valuable contribution to the neighborhood, the church, and society.

We want to help students discover the Christian faith and grow as individuals. In addition, they meet other young people and learn to serve others. Young people develop through our project into service-oriented and involved individuals who will make a positive difference in the places where they live and work. We are looking for donors who believe in this mission! For example:

  • Companies that want to support the formation of young professionals

  • Funds that want to make this diaconal project possible

  • Individuals who want to be part of our mission

Your support will fully benefit a non-profit project that directly yields results for society and the Church of today and tomorrow. Therefore, your financial support will become a gift that keeps on giving.

The houses are managed by “Stichting Vrienden van het Studentenpastoraat Sint Jan (SVSSJ).” This foundation was established by the Brothers of Saint John to help them on the material level. With the help of donations SVSSJ has purchased two houses.
